Tip of the Week

With the holidays fast approaching, even the most died-in-the-wool thrifts whip out the credit cards. Here are a few tips to protect you this holiday season.

Destroy carbons and incorrect charge slips. Paper shredders are not just for offices any more! You can get an affordable shredder for home use. Better yet, tear the receipt in half so that part of your account number is on one half and the rest is on the other half. Throw each piece in a different trash can for added security.

Keep copies of all sales slips. Open credit card bills promptly and compare the sales slips with the charges on your bill.

Draw a line through blank spaces on charge slips. Do not sign a blank charge slip.

Report billing errors and unauthorized charges to your credit card company right away.

Food for thought: Credit is a loan. It is your future income already spent.
